What is it?

LateralGM is the IDE for ENIGMA. Together, they provide a game development environment that works on any OS. This game creation tool provides an easy to use Drag & Drop system for newer game developers, and its own powerful programming language which is C++-compatible for learning and advanced developers. LateralGM provides a powerful and fairly easy-to-use interface for putting the pieces of your game together, such as sounds, animated graphics, and even a room/level/scene editor. ENIGMA provides an even more powerful game engine with a fully compiled language and an extensible and extensive set of APIs for file functions, networking/multiplayer, 3d, physics/collisions, widgets, and more.

LateralGM by itself is a cross-platform, third-party, open source alternative IDE for Game Maker. That mouthful basically just means that we provide another program to edit your Game Maker files in, in case GM itself doesn't meet your needs. In a nutshell, we provide a game development environment that works on any OS, is feature-rich, small, and best of all, so free that you could even modify it and redistribute it if you wanted. And we encourage you to do so!

Help Needed

At this time we're quite short on hands, so if you know Java, please drop me a line, and I'll show you the ropes. No need to apply, as mentioned above. You can get the source code and modify it yourself without ever interacting with us, but it would help to learn your way around.

Bottom-up Design

We know that by building software from the ground up, we can keep it small, and functioning exactly as we intend.
Quality: building the foundations first, then the dream.

Always use protection?

Some people think that software needs protection, but all that does is add bulk and slow down the program, harming the honest user. We don't think that's right, which is why we believe software should have Freedom. It's your software, you should be able to do what you want with it. That's why we've made our source code available to you, and placed it under the GPL3, to ensure that nobody can take that freedom away.

Hidden Costs

It's also worth noting that LateralGM is Free of charge. Not a penny has gone into the development of LateralGM, and not a penny shall come out of it. Thus, you will not see any Donate buttons anywhere on our site or our project.
